World Famous Metal Structures

At PTL, we work with our fair share of large scale steel and metal structures.

Here are some fun facts about some of the most widely recognized metal structures in the world!

1) The Brooklyn Bridge

Let’s start with a metal marvel located right here in the USA, The Brooklyn Bridge connects Brooklyn, NY to the Island of Manhattan! The construction of this bridge took 600 workers 14 years to complete. Since then, its granite pillars and gigantic steel cables have become a symbol of the city and a fixture of the New York City skyline.

2) The Eiffel Tower

This enormous, elaborate metal structure was constructed for the 1889 World’s Fair. Standing at 320 meters tall, it was the tallest structure until the Chrysler Building came along 42 years later. The Eiffel Tower is composed of 7,000 metric tons of puddling iron. Puddling iron was the precursor to commercial steel, a material favored by engineers that would come along later!

3) Willis Tower (Formerly the Sears Tower)

This metal monster dominates the Chicago skyline. Taking only 3 years to build, it’s hard to believe that the Willis Tower is actually composed of several smaller structures linked together by a series of supports and large steel beams. This tower had to be made strong enough to withstand those notorious Chicago wind gusts, and the steel used in the series of beams and supports helps accomplish that!

These are just a few of the fascinating large scale metal structures to be found in the world! While you may not be building a skyscraper or suspension bridge, PTL is equipped with the team, the equipment, and the knowledge to help you construct any number of large scale metal projects. Whether you are in the market for a PEMB or any number of other metal structure, we are here to help! Visit our website, or contact us to learn more about our many specialized services.
